Lewis's Topographical Dictionary - Waterford County

36. Kilgobinet
Kilgobinet, a parish, in the union of Dungarvan, barony of Decies-without-Drum, county of Waterford, and province of Munster, 2 miles (N.) from Dungarvan; containing 3136 inhabitants. This parish comprises 16,109 statute acres, and includes the southern end of the elevated range of the Cummeragh mountains, which are chiefly composed of clay-slate and slaty conglomerate, with veins of quartz and sandstone.

It is a vicarage, in the diocese of Lismore, forming part of the union of Modeligo; the rectory forms the corps of the prebend of Kilgobinet in the cathedral of Lismore: the tithe rent-charge is £285, of which £135 are payable to the prebendary, and the remainder to the vicar. In Roman Catholic divisions this parish is the head of a district, comprising the parishes of Kilgobinet, Colligan, and Clonea, and containing three chapels, two of which are at Kilgobinet, and one at Colligan. There are some remains of the church.
