Lewis's Topographical Dictionary - Waterford County

58. Lisnakill
Lisnakill, a parish, in the barony of Middlethird, union and county of Waterford, and province of Munster, 4 miles (W. by S.) from Waterford; containing 674 inhabitants. It comprises 2534 statute acres; the soil is various: in the north-western extremity, slate of good quantity for roofing was formerly quarried.

The living is a rectory, in the diocese of Waterford, united to part of the rectory of Kilmeaden, together constituting the corps of the treasurership of Waterford, in the patronage of the Bishop. The tithe rent-charge of the parish is £120, and the glebe comprises rather more than 5½ acres; there is neither church nor glebe-house.

At the time of the Down survey there was an ancient castle at this place; and in a Danish fort, at no great distance, have been found two curious earthen vessels, in one of which was a golden bracelet. At Whitfield, in a vast heap stones, are two conical apartments built of stone, and supposed to have been used as tombs.
