Tallow School GirlsExtract dated 1900 taken from the newspaper "Down Recorder", Downpatrick, Co. Down, Northern Ireland.

"At Tallow, the plot of ground attached to the boy's National School there is very advantageously used by their teacher, Mr. T. O'Leary, to give the senior boys a practical acquaintance with the cultivation and uses of the several kinds of farm crops grown in Ireland as well as the different varieties of grasses and clovers, and the more generally grown kitchen vegetables. The teacher in this instance, received a short course of training in the old model farm in Glasnevin, under Clune, Downing and Grey, in order that his rural pupils could benefit by his information and experience. The garden is an object of much interest to the parents of the pupils and others in the district, and receives a great amount of observant notice from visitors during the year. Today, Tallow has one big National School attended by Girls and Boys under the capable administration of E. de Paor, Priomh Oide [Head Master]."
