Lynch Family of Ballyduffmore, The
On Thursday 7 of June 2001, Christie's of New York sold a stained glass window by Tiffany's for $391,000. This window is a particular interest to Dungarvan area as it depicts a thatched cottage at Ballyduffmore, the home of the Lynch family. The window measures 56½ x 84 inches and is signed 'Tiffany Studios'. In response to a query from Christie's, Waterford County Museum decided to find out what information was available on the Lynch family and whether the cottage depicted was still standing.
Hearn, Francis (d. 1799)
He was influenced to get involved with the United Irishmen as a result of reading French pamphlets on liberty while he was in Louvain. He was sentenced to death in October 1799 and was brought to the Old Waterford Bridge where he was hanged.
Lenihan, Maurice (1811-1895)
In 1844 O'Connell encouraged Lenihan to found the Tipperary Vindicator in Nenagh. Their aim was to advocate repeal and disestablishment.
Keane, Leopold George Frederick (1780-1855)
According to Griffith's Valuation, Leopold was the lessor of a number of properties in Cappoquin and the occupier of a bake house, flour mill, wood stores and a timber yard.
Holahan, Mary Brennan (1920-2001)
Mary Brennan Holahan was born in 1920 in Sexton Street, Abbeyside. In 1996 she published a biography of the artist Sarah Purser titled - 'A Portrait of Sarah Purser' which was the first work to concentrate on the history of the Purser family in Dungarvan.
