Hansard - Lynch

Lynch Family of Ballyduffmore, The
On Thursday 7 of June 2001, Christie's of New York sold a stained glass window by Tiffany's for $391,000. This window is a particular interest to Dungarvan area as it depicts a thatched cottage at Ballyduffmore, the home of the Lynch family. The window measures 56½ x 84 inches and is signed 'Tiffany Studios'. In response to a query from Christie's, Waterford County Museum decided to find out what information was available on the Lynch family and whether the cottage depicted was still standing.

Hearn, Francis (d. 1799)
He was influenced to get involved with the United Irishmen as a result of reading French pamphlets on liberty while he was in Louvain. He was sentenced to death in October 1799 and was brought to the Old Waterford Bridge where he was hanged.

Keily, Sergeant Jack (1857-1905)
He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary when he was 18. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1884.

Lenihan, Maurice (1811-1895)
 In 1844 O'Connell encouraged Lenihan to found the Tipperary Vindicator in Nenagh. Their aim was to advocate repeal and disestablishment.

Keane, Leopold George Frederick (1780-1855)
According to Griffith's Valuation, Leopold was the lessor of a number of properties in Cappoquin and the occupier of a bake house, flour mill, wood stores and a timber yard.

Keane, Sir Richard, Bart. (1780-1855)
In 1831 he gave 4 lots of his land to the Cistercians and they built Mount Melleray on the site.
 

Hogan, John (1800-1858)
 Hogan was 'one of the five great sculptors of the nineteenth century.'

Keohan, Patrick (b. 1865)
Munster winner of the All Ireland Athletic Championships

Hansard, Joseph (1835-1909)
He published the first issue of the Dungarvan Gazette & County Waterford Advertiser.

Holahan, Mary Brennan (1920-2001)
Mary Brennan Holahan was born in 1920 in Sexton Street, Abbeyside. In 1996 she published a biography of the artist Sarah Purser titled - 'A Portrait of Sarah Purser' which was the first work to concentrate on the history of the Purser family in Dungarvan.
