Power - Ussher

Power, Edmond (d. 1799)
Irish Patriot, Edmond was arrested in September 1799 and taken to Waterford where he was courtmartialled in October of that year and sentenced to be hanged. A monument in the form of a celtic cross by Molloy of Callen was erected to his memory in the Park. (This is the only 1798 memorial in Co. Waterford).

Smith M.D., Charles (1715-1762)
His history of Co. Waterford was an important work. It contains important engraved panoramas of Dungarvan, Waterford and Lismore.

Power, William (Grattan Tyrone) (1797-1841)
The film actor Tyrone Power was his great-grandson.

Pyne M.P., Jasper Douglas (1847-1888)
He was elected M.P. for West Waterford on the Home Rule ticket in 1885 and was a member of the Land League movement.

Ryland, Rev. Richard Hopkins (1788-1866)
Author of The History, Topography and Antiquities of the County and City of Waterford.

Ussher, Richard John (1841-1913)
Ussher was a noted ornithologist and historian.

Stapleton, Michael J
A noted author and editor he wrote several books on ancient and Oriental mythology.
 

Tobin, Tom (1926-1989)
In 1953 he wrote a book - Echoes from Decies - 'A Waterford Scrapbook' which consisted of a collection of his own photographs of Dungarvan with accompanying text.

Purser, Louis Claude (1854-1932)
In 1897 Louis was appointed Professor of Latin at Trinity College, Dublin.
 

Purser, Sarah (1848-1943)
A highly successful portrait painter and an important figure in the Irish art world at the turn of the century.
