[Editors Note: In 1851 an Irish dispensary service was established under the control of the Poor Law Commission. It was available to all who could not afford medical attention.]

The first meeting of the Tallow Dispensary Committee was held at the Courthouse, Tallow, on 13th March 1852, when the following appointments were made.

Arthur Usher Esq. appointed Chairman;
Major Edward Broker deputy Chairman;
Mr. O'Mahony, Hon. Secretary
and Mr. H. Parker, Hon. Asst. Secretary.

The Committee appointed every second Tuesday as the meeting. Next meeting to be held on Tuesday 23rd inst at 11.00 a.m. A notice was drafted:

Tallow Dispensary
Attendance
Monday and Friday
From 10 - 12 o'clock

Medical Doctor - Doctor Foot. The fever Hospital is within the Lismore Poor-Law union and served Tallow as well.
