Examples of donations include photographs, maps, medals, posters, diaries, sporting memorabilia, maritime material, drawings and paintings of Waterford interest, business records, newspapers, civil war materials & ecclesiastical items.

It is generally preferrable that Artifacts be donated to the museum as permanent donations or long term loan, rather than given on short term loan. The museum will take temporary loans for special exhibitions. On receipt of the artifact, a form is signed by the donor and also by museum personnel. Waterford County Museum is interested primarily in items of Waterford origin or interest. Waterford County Museum is a non-profit organisation we do not sell on artifacts.

Temporary Loan: The artifact remains the property of the donor and is loaned to the museum for a short period of time (for the duration of a single exhibition for example).

Long Term Loan: The artifact remains the property of the donor and is loaned to the museum for a long period of time (several years typically). If at any time the donor wishes the artifact to be returned to them it will be done as quickly as possible.

Permanent Donation: The artifact is donated to the museum and becomes the property of the museum.
