Waterford County Museum’s mission is to record, display, and preserve artefacts, documents, and images relating to the history of county Waterford and make them available as a resource for the enjoyment and education of the local community and visitors, irrespective of age, gender, disability, or ethnicity.
- Waterford County Museum Society is a not-for-profit voluntary organization consisting of a Chairman, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and eight Trustees who meet on a monthly basis.
- The Trustees administer the Waterford County Museum, which is based in the Old Town Hall, St Augustine Street, Dungarvan, Co Waterford. The exhibition space is leased from Waterford City & County Council.
- Museum staff are provided through a Community Employment scheme: CMT Community Services Ltd, and there is a part-time curator.
- The Committee will provide an exhibition space to display part of its collection and mount occasional temporary exhibitions.
- The collection will be used to entertain, inform, educate, and challenge the visitor.
- The collection will be catalogued, displayed, and stored to a professional standard.
- The museum Trustees support the idea of outreach exhibitions which can be held in other venues in Dungarvan or around the county.
- Waterford County Museum Society is composed of individuals who pay an annual membership fee to support the work of the museum.
- The Museum Trustees organize a series of Winter/Spring public talks on topics of local/national/general historical interest.
- The museum has a website: www.waterfordmuseum.ie which contains articles on local history and an extensive image archive which helps to link with the county Waterford diaspora and provides information for students, researchers, and others.
- The museum will utilize the internet, local press, and social media to promote the museum and its collection.
- The museum Trustees will endeavour to add to the collection by acquiring through purchase or donation artefacts which will reflect the history of county Waterford.
- The museum will work with local community groups/schools to encourage them to visit.
- The museum will endeavour to develop new audiences, particularly those who rarely or never visit museums.
- The museum will encourage interaction with the museum collection amongst schools and young people.
- Museum staff will be given training in relation to the collection content, family history resources, and specific types of local history queries.
- The museum staff will provide assistance to the best of their ability to those carrying out research and genealogy queries.
