Denis (Denny) Flynn, Sailor On The Morning Star

A portrait of Denis (Denny) Flynn, sole survivor of the Morning Star sinking. The sailing schooner was wrecked off Boatstrand Pier on Thursday, 14th October 1914 on its voyage from Cardiff to Cork with a cargo of coal. The Morning Star was captained by 34-year-old Augustine Christopher of Abbeyside, Dungarvan. The other crew members were Denis Flynn, also of Abbeyside, James Casey of Dungarvan, Michael Sullivan, Courtmacsherry Co.Cork and John Falvey, Cork City. Denis Flynn sadly died two months after the sinking from pneumonia.
